The ministry of road transport & highways has awarded the contract to develop a  multi-modal logistics park (MMLP)  at Mappedu in Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu to Reliance industries Ltd (RIL). To be Constructed on 184.27 acres of land at an estimated cost of ₹1,424 crore this MMLP will be implemented in three phases and would offer facilities such as warehouses, cold storages, cargo terminals, custom facilities, truck terminals, accommodation and boarding facilities for truckers, and will allow shippers to choose between different modes of transportation as per their requirements.

Proximity to the automobile and electronics manufacturing clusters on the Sriperumbudur-Oragadam industrial belt, and the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPPR) is a major advantage for this MMLP.  This will be a focal point of logistics in the southern region and is expected to be a  game changer for Tiruvallur.  Industry experts predict that once this MMLP becomes operational, the prices of plots in Thiruvallur would skyrocket, and premium gated community plots will yield excellent profits on sales.

New industrial park

In addition to the numerous industrial establishments, the Tamil Nadu government has proposed to develop a new industrial park in Sengathakulam in Tiruvallur district. The State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Ltd (SIPCOT) has identified 576.32 acres of land for this purpose. This is expected to provide employment opportunities for thousands and encourage more settlement here. Infrastructure development has been proposed around this area to facilitate this, including the upgrading of The outer ring, the GST road and the other connecting roads. 

The massive developmental projects underway in Tiruvallur, many futuristic plans in the pipeline, focused efforts by the government towards industrial growth, and infrastructure development through initiatives like laying of new roads, expansion of existing ones, improvement of civic amenities has transformed Tiruvallur into a hub of activities.
